St. Joseph Catholic church staffs five choral scholar positions in the Schola cantorum. Auditions are on a rolling basis as positions come open. The season runs from the end of August through Feast of Corpus Christi which is usually late Spring or early Summer.

Choral scholars act as section leaders at Wednesday night rehearsals (6-7:30 p.m.) and Sunday 10:30 a.m. Holy Mass. Choral scholars also cantor at other Masses over the weekend per their availability.

Compensation is per call at a competitive downtown Columbia rate. Choral scholars may choose to teach voice lessons to members of Bel canto (children’s choir) for additional compensation.

Choral Scholar Opportunities
​
St. Joseph’s Parish has a rich history of choral literature preparing sacred choral works and Gregorian chant for weekly Masses. Over the years, the choir has toured and performed all over the world, including The Papal Mass in Columbia in 1987.
