Choral Scholar Opportunities
St. Joseph Catholic church staffs five choral scholar positions for the Schola cantorum. Auditions are on a rolling basis as positions become open. The choir season runs from the end of August through the feast of Corpus Christi. Choral scholars act as section leaders for the parish’s Schola cantorum at Wednesday night rehearsals (6-7:30 p.m.) and at Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass. Choral scholars also cantor at other Masses over the weekend per their availability. Compensation is per call with a competitive downtown Columbia rate. Starting fall 2019, voice lessons will be offered to our children choristers. Choral scholars may choose to teach these lessons for additional compensation.
St. Joseph’s Parish has a rich history of choral literature preparing sacred choral works and Gregorian chant for weekly Masses. Over the years, the choir has toured and performed all over the world, including The Papal Mass in Columbia in 1987.
