From The. Organ Bench - No. 9 of 14

A little over three years after beginning a journey to discern God’s will for a possible new pipe organ, our organ committee decided that the best possible choice of an organ builder was C.B. Fisk of Gloucester, Mass. We could now take our findings to parish leadership and continue the journey discerning God’s will for a new pipe organ with a more focused vision.

An interesting fact that arose out of our experience that you may (or may not) find interesting... most American pipe organ firms only make a small percentage of their pipes these days. Most of the pipes are purchased from second-party suppliers and shipped via UPS or FedEx in cardboard boxes. The question became, “How can the words Pipe Organ Builder be justified if a company relies on second-party suppliers for most of their pipework?” Perhaps Pipe Organ Assemblers would be a more appropriate name? Or does it matter? There are very few pipe organ companies in the U.S.A. that still make 99-100% of their own pipes. C.B. Fisk is one of those companies. And yes, it does matter that a pipe organ builder makes its own pipes. Stay tuned to learn why!
