St. Gianna Guild
Our Mission is to increase awareness of, and to promote respect for, all human life from conception to natural death; to help bring an end to abortion, euthanasia, and all assault on life through prayer, education, and charity.
What We Do:
We offer a monthly pro-life Rosary on the 1st Sunday of each month immediately following the 8:15AM Mass, in front of the Shrine to the Unborn (next to the St. Joseph fountain).
We actively participate on the two 40 Days for Life Campaigns each year where our members and other volunteers pray in front of the Planned Parenthood Clinic on Middleburg Drive.
St. Gianna Berretta Motta
b. Oct. 4, 1922 - d. Apr. 28, 1962
Our Guild is named after the 20th Century Italian saint, St. Gianna Berretta Molla. Doctor, wife, and mother.
Diagnosed with cancer during her last pregnancy, she hoped that both her life and the life of her child would be saved. But she instructed those treating her:
"If you must decide between me and the child, do not hesitate: choose the child."
"I insist on it. Save the baby."
Surgery was performed while she was pregnant. St. Gianna passed 7 days after the baby's birth.
