Ursuline Associates

Do you want to pray more profoundly? Serve more selflessly? Connect more spiritually?

Then being an Ursuline Associate may be right for you.

Ursuline Associates are Christian women and men, single and married, who seek deeper lives of prayer and service as followers of Jesus in the spirit and tradition of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Sisters. While maintaining an independent lifestyle, associates partner with sisters to embrace the "charism" of the Ursuline Community, which is a contemplative love of God resulting in an openness and eagerness to serve others.

The process to become an Ursuline Associate includes a year of attending associate and community activities followed by a year of formation training.  During this time, the prospect learns more about the legacy of St. Angela, prayer, community, and the ministry of the Ursuline Sisters.  The process concludes with the signing of a covenant during a special prayer ceremony.

Requirements:

  • A Christian who is a minimum of 18 years of age

  • Completion of a formation process that clarifies the traditions of the Ursuline community

  • Incorporate the Ursuline Charism into daily life

  • Share in Ursuline celebrations, days of prayer, retreats, and reflections

The History of the Louisville Ursuline Associate Call

The Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, Kentucky, were founded when three sisters from Straubing, Germany, arrived in Louisville in 1858 to offer Catholic education to the German immigrants.  The Ursuline Sisters continually adapted to changing times, especially following the Second Vatican Council, where the call went out for renewal of Catholic teachings.  this renewal encouraged the sisters to embrace innovative forms of teaching Christian living, and as a result, in 1979, the Ursuline Associate Call was established.

"I discovered the Associate Call through my relationship with the Angela Merici Center for Spirituality... I have found a deeper relationship with God and a stronger sense of relationship for my brothers and sisters in Christ."

Pat Turner, Louisville, KY

"I remember the feeling of completeness & joy as I sat there listening to what I gain by connecting with the Ursuline Sister and the Associates."

Michael Anne Fultz, Fort Myers, FL

"I value the camaraderie & shared time with the Sisters and Associates through the Associate Call Program...I embrace the charism of Saint Angela and the Ursulines through my outreach to others."

Teresa Sowers, Columbia, SC

“I became an Associate as a result of my relationship with the Ursuline Sisters.  Being a part of the Associate Call helps me live life as a follower of Saint Angela."

Anna Michael, Frostburg, MD

"The Associate Call gives me joy, friendship, spiritual growth and other opportunities to use my talents in service to others."
