Lay Carmelites

The Lay Carmelites are a branch of the religious Order of the Ancient Observance. Carmelites are known for devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Our Lay Carmelite Community welcomes practicing Catholics who are at least 18 years of age and who wish to deepen their prayer experience becoming more contemplative while living in the world. After a period of initial formation, candidates are accepted for profession. Apart from attending a monthly Community meeting on the third Saturday of each month (9:00 - 11:30 am), our Lay Carmelites wear the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They are expected to participate in daily celebration of the Eucharist whenever possible and should spend at least one-half hour in meditation each day. The Lay Carmelite also prays the Liturgy of the Hours (Morning and Evening Prayers).
