What is a Tuba Magna?

The Tuba magna organ stop controls a set of 61 organ pipes that have a powerful, yet warm, rich, commanding sound that soars above all of the stops of the organ. In this YouTube video, the Tuba Magna can be seen and heard when the organist plays on the top keyboard of the organ console. It is especially useful for bridal fanfares, majestic introductions to hymns, and soloing out the melody line of grand hymns like Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
